There is “Trinidad Lake State Park” about 4 miles west of the town. There are great hiking trails and areas to camp and boat. The park has many historical attractions like the ruins of a coal mine at Cokedale. Part of the mountain road of the “Santa Fe Trail” runs through the park.
Downtown
Downtown Trinidad has several museums. Kit Carson Park has picnic tables, a play area and a bronze statue of Kit Carson. You could pick up food and have a picnic at the park.
Where to eat
You will need to eat take-out or delivery as the restaurants have all been closed for inside dining. This means a lot of fast food but who cares when you are on vacation.
